Taking a classic old fashioned and turning it into the perfect BBQ treat. Using Agar Agar gelatin powder, black cherries, simple syrup, bitters, and bourbon we take this cocktail recipe to the next level. Similar to Jell-O shots but with a nicer texture, you end up with the ultimate whiskey snack great for a party, poker game, or just sitting by the smoker while barbequing. At 75 proof alcohol, these things pack a punch!
To calculate the amount of alcohol use the following formula and example. Measurements need to be in ounces.
(Alcohol Content x Liquor Volume / Total Drink Volume) x 100 = % Alcohol by Volume
In this recipe we have 12oz (1-1/2 cups) of 50% ABV (100 proof) bourbon and 4oz (1/2 cup) of the combined soda water & simple syrup. With our total drink volume being 16oz.
(.50 x 12 / 16) x 100 = 37.5
37.5 ABV = 75 proof
In a small sauce pan add the soda water, simple syrup, cherry juice, bitters, and Agar Agar.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer, stirring constantly for 2 minutes.
Let cool until the temperature reaches about 140-150F.
Add the bourbon and stir thoroughly. Allow to cool to 100-110F.
Fill the molds a third of the way, add a cherry to each, and fill to the top.
Let cool on the counter for 10-15 and then move to the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Remove from the molds and enjoy!
