Homemade moonshine coming in at 45 Proof that tastes like apple pie with a hint of caramel! Apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, white & brown sugar, Everclear, and vodka all melded together to make what's sure to be your new favorite fall drink!
Here's the formula for figuring out the amount of alcohol in a drink, as well as an explanation on how to use if you want to adjust the recipe to be more or less of the 45 proof.
(Alcohol Content x Liquor Volume / Total Drink Volume) x 100 = % Alcohol by Volume
To use the formula above you'll need to break down each of the alcoholic ingredients by multiplying the volume of each by their strengths. All values are in ounces and Alcohol By Volume (ABV).
750ml bottles equals 25.36 oz.
We have 2 bottles of Everclear which is 50.72oz, we'll round up to 51oz, at 151 proof which is 75.5% ABV
We also have 1 bottle of caramel vodka which is 25.36oz, we'll round down to 25oz., at 60 proof which is 30% ABV
Ingredient Volume and Standard ABV
51 oz Everclear 75.5% (.755) ABV
25 oz Caramel Vodka 30% (.30) ABV
128 oz Apple Cider
With that information, you will add up the total alcohol content per liquor volume. You will also need to add up the drink's total volume.
( .755 x 51 ) + ( .30 x 25 ) = 46 51 + 25 + 128 = 204 oz
(alcohol content x liquor volume) (total drink volume)
These two numbers are then plugged into the formula:
46 / 204 = .225 x 100 = 22.5% ABV or 45 proof
Combine the apple cider, 20 cinnamon sticks, ground cinnamon, cloves, white sugar, and brown sugar into a large pot.
Stir and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and allow to cool for at least an hour.
Add the both bottles of Everclear and caramel vodka and still well.
Place one fresh cinnamon stick in each 1 pint mason jar, and fill with moonshine.
Allow the moonshine to chill in the refrigerator before drinking.
Enjoy!
